If she were a man, would her circumstances be different? Would she be able to have a successful career and be a parent? It's an easy answer.

Serena has become the epitome of success in the world of sports, but the physical toll motherhood has taken on her body makes it impossible for her to be both a mother and athlete. The thing is, men don't ever have to think about weighing their career and parenting—and most men get ahead in their careers on the backs of women’s domestic labor. They get to be a family man and an athlete/corporate exec/whatever they want.

Men will rarely ever be asked questions or told comments like, "Who watches your kids while you're at work?", or "Your spouse helps out at home? They deserve a trophy."

This imbalance between being a career-woman and mother doesn't just happen to the best, it happens to women everywhere—and as @serenawilliams says, it's not fair.

The Pillars of Abuse were identified by Annette Oltmans of @themendproject and represent what drives abusive thinking.

📍 Entitlement: The abuser feels they deserve preferential treatment that doesn’t apply to the victim. This results in a double standard, often fueled by patriarchy.

📍 Faulty Belief System: A culturally ingrained belief that influences an attitude of machismo or feeling that they have a hierarchical position in a relationship.

📍 Image Management: The abuser works hard to portray an image to the outside that’s different from the behaviors on the inside of the relationship. This contributes to people not believing the victim.

📍 Double Abuse: When somebody doesn’t believe the victim or judges the victim, whether an individual in their life or in an institutional setting. This results in preferential treatment being given to the abuser.

When your life is turned upside down by divorce, it can be so hard to think clearly.

It feels like there are millions of things to untangle and sort through, and each one is swirling through your mind fighting for your attention. And in the midst of all that chaos is the most important decision you’ll have to make: your parenting plan.

There are some big questions to think about, including:
✔️What is shared parenting, exactly?
✔️How do you determine the best parenting plan for YOUR life?
✔️Why is shared parenting better for mothers?
✔️When you shouldn’t fight for equal shared parenting time?

I know there’s a lot to consider. I know it feels overwhelming. I know you desperately want to just make the right decision for yourself and your kids.
